July 3-11
1776
Mansfield Music and Art Society presents "1776" at the Unitarian Church of Sharon from July 3-11, 2010. The production is directed by Judi Burns Kotta with music direction by Dave Coccia. Our church is responsible for refreshments during intermission for each of the shows and the church will retain those proceeds. We need volunteers to contribute drinks, cookies and brownies and also to help at the concession stand. Please contact Pat McDougal if you can help. We will also get a portion of any ads that are placed in the program. If you have a local service or business you would like to advertise please let Pat know. "1776" is a funny, insightful and compelling musical drama that puts a human face on the pages of American History. Book and music are by Sherman Edwards and Peter Stone. It's the summer of 1776 and the nation is ready to declare independence... if only the founding fathers could agree! "1776" follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote to free their fledgling nation from the chains of the British Monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.

Caregiver Support Group
The Caring Committee recognized that there are a number of us in the congregation who are heading down that difficult road of caring for parents in declining health. Because it can help to share and support each other in this journey, the Caring Committee started a caregiver support group. This is an open group led by Susan Edinger who is a licensed geriatric social worker. Our next meeting is scheduled for July 12 at 7:30 in the Vestry. For more information please contact Pat McDougal or Susan Edinger.

Sharon-Stoughton Food Pantry
The Sharon-Stoughton Food Pantry provides nutritious food those in need — and there are many in our area. The Pantry purchases cereals and grains in bulk, but relies on donations for canned goods. Our congregation is one of a few whom the Pantry can count on for regular contributions. So when you do your weekly shopping, please purchase a can or two of soup, fruit, vegetables or meat. You may leave them in the basket at the vestry entrance and a volunteer will deliver them to the Pantry.

Blood Donations Needed
Right now there is a serious blood shortage nationwide, and it's particularly critical in Massachusetts where our many hospitals depend on the supply. If you are in good health, you can help by giving blood at any blood donation center. To find a donation center near home or work, contact the Massachusetts Red Cross or Rhode Island Red Cross. Or call the Red Cross at 1-800-354-0025.

Chalice Lighters
Want to help grow Unitarian Universalism in southeast Massachusetts and Rhode Island? You can, by becoming a Chalice Lighter. What are Chalice Lighters? They are UUs in the Ballou Channing District who have pledged to give at least $10 up to three times a year, when a "Call Notice" is mailed them for a specific project. What happens to the money raised? The Ballou Channing District Board of Directors gives grants to congregations to assist with membership growth-related programs and projects including staff, facilities and outreach activities. Will you join the Chalice Lighters? Download the PDF enrollment form. E-mail the BCD Office for more information.
