Social Justice Involvement
This age group values hands-on, experiential learning and has a growing sense of the need to serve others. This year, they will take the lead on the congregation’s long-standing commitment to provide Father Bill’s & Mainspring House with over 100 bagged lunches on the second Sunday of each month. Once this project is well in hand, the group will brainstorm additional projects to take on.
Ages 15 & 16 (Gr. 9 & 10)
Coming of Age – part I
This rite of passage program helps youth deepen their Unitarian Universalist faith and clarify their own particular UU identity as they emerge out of childhood and into young adulthood. In this two-year program, teens will journey through three dimensions of spiritual life and accompanying questions: belonging – to whom or what do I belong?; becoming – who am I becoming?; and beyond – what is beyond me? Within these three general areas of the spiritual life, youth will be invited to wrestle with more specific questions as they shape their personal religious identity.
Ages 15 – 18 (Gr. 9-12)
Senior High Youth Group
Through weekly meetings, overnights, youth worship, social action projects and congregational events, senior youth create strong bonds with their peers and adults. Youth Group meets Sunday evenings from 5 to 7, and is open to all high school aged youth. These meetings are anchored in mutual respect, youth empowerment, leadership development, spiritual exploration, and lots of fun!
Youth Leadership
Youth ministry within the church focuses on creating a community where youth are witnessed and encouraged to explore and share their gifts. We support youth in their leadership and we are supported by youth leadership as they serve on committees that are instrumental in policy, hiring, education, worship, and events.
Parents
As the primary religious and spiritual teachers of their children, parents can be supported by a faith community that offers not only companionship but specific resources for the journey. Look for workshops such as Parenting in Complex Times, Parents as Sexuality Educators, and coming up this fall – Unitarian Universalist Parenting
